Vintage Lisbon: Memories in Color
This series of mixed media works on paper is inspired by my travels to Lisbon, Portugal, and the special memories of our stay at the Vintage Hotel. I wanted to capture the spirit of a city that is full of warmth, color, history, and unexpected beauty. I remember Lisbon's winding hills, the play of sunshine across its cobblestone streets.
The city's distinctive tiles, with their intricate patterns, rich colors, and weathered surfaces, made a lasting impression on me. I was equally drawn to the pottery, the textures, and the handmade objects that reflect Portugal's artistic traditions. These visual impressions became a vocabulary of shapes, patterns, colors, and textures (including glitter) that I could reinterpret through my own artistic process.
Through layers, collage, and mixed media, I bring these memories together in an abstracted interpretation of place. Rather than creating literal images of Lisbon, I am interested in capturing the feelings that remain after a journey—the warmth of the sun, the rhythm of the hills, the beauty of the tiles, the sparkle of the sunshine, and the pleasure of time spent in a memorable place. Each work becomes a visual fragment of travel, transforming personal experiences into lasting impressions on paper.
